“So Boaz said to her, ‘Do not go to glean in another field, nor go from here, but stay close by my young women.’” – Ruth 2:8 (NKJV)
Message:
Favour doesn’t always find you while you wait; often, it meets you while you move. Ruth’s story is a beautiful example of what happens when faith takes action. After losing her husband and leaving her homeland, Ruth could have stayed in Moab, frozen by grief and fear of the unknown. But instead, she followed Naomi to Bethlehem, trusting that God’s hand was still on her life.
When she arrived, she didn’t sit around waiting for a miracle. She went out to work, gleaning leftover grain in the fields. It was there, in her place of effort and humility, that favour found her. Ruth 2:3 says, “As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz.” What looked like coincidence was divine direction. Her faith guided her steps to the very place where her destiny would unfold.
This principle runs throughout Scripture. Abraham stepped out of his homeland without knowing where he was going, yet every step of faith opened a new chapter of promise (Genesis 12:1–4). Peter cast his nets again at Jesus’ word, even after a night of failure, and witnessed a miracle that changed his life (Luke 5:4–6). The woman with the issue of blood didn’t stay hidden; she pressed through the crowd, and her act of faith brought healing (Mark 5:27–29).
Faith is never passive. It moves. It obeys. It takes small steps toward what God has promised, even when there’s no visible sign of success. And in those moments, favour appears. God’s blessings are often waiting on the other side of your obedience.
Maybe you’ve been praying for open doors or divine provision, but you’ve been afraid to take the first step. The truth is, God often blesses the field you’re willing to work in. Your “field” might be your business, your studies, your ministry, or even your daily responsibilities. When you show up faithfully and do your part, God multiplies your effort and connects you to divine opportunity.
Favour isn’t found in sitting idle; it’s found in walking forward, even when you don’t see the full picture. Ruth’s story reminds us that your field of labour can become your field of destiny when faith leads the way.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for reminding me that faith must move before favour can manifest. Give me the courage to step out and trust You even when I cannot see the outcome. Bless the work of my hands and let Your favour meet me in the field where You have planted me. Amen.
