The Oil That Doesn’t Run Out

“The jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.” – 1 Kings 17:16 (NIV)

Message:
God’s favour has a way of sustaining what logic says should end. When the widow of Zarephath met Elijah, she had reached her breaking point. Her resources were gone, her hope was fading, and she was preparing her last meal before death. Yet, at that lowest moment, divine favour stepped in. God sent His prophet to her door not to take from her, but to bring her into the realm of supernatural provision.

When Elijah told her to use the last of her flour and oil to make him a meal first (1 Kings 17:13), it didn’t make sense. But obedience to that word became the doorway to her miracle. Scripture says, “She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.” (1 Kings 17:15). What she gave away became the seed that sustained her household through famine.

That is the mystery of divine favour — it multiplies what remains when you believe there’s nothing left to give. Favour turns scarcity into sufficiency. It doesn’t always come as sudden abundance; sometimes, it comes as daily provision that never runs out. Every morning, there was still oil in the jar. Every day, there was still flour to bake. God didn’t give her excess; He gave her consistency. Favour keeps flowing as long as faith keeps trusting.

We see this same principle echoed in the New Testament. Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fish to feed five thousand people (John 6:11–13). He didn’t create new food out of nothing — He multiplied what was surrendered. Favour takes what you place in God’s hands and makes it more than enough.

Maybe you are in a season where you feel like your strength, joy, or resources are running out. The same God who sustained the widow will sustain you. The oil of grace never runs dry when you trust Him fully. As long as you keep pouring in faith, heaven will keep refilling in favour.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being the God of daily provision. Even when I feel empty, remind me that Your supply never runs dry. Help me to trust You when resources are low and to give even when it feels uncomfortable. Let Your favour multiply my efforts, sustain my home, and overflow into every area of my life. Amen.
