Forget the Former Things

Isaiah 43:18 – “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.”

You cannot embrace the future while holding tightly to the past. Many people want a new season, but their hearts are anchored to what used to be. The Lord reminds us today: “Forget the former things.”

Israel struggled with this. Even after being delivered from Egypt, they longed for the past—craving onions and garlic instead of embracing manna from heaven. Lot’s wife looked back at Sodom and was frozen in time. These stories remind us that clinging to the past robs us of the new horizons God is opening.

The past can trap us in two ways: through our failures and through our successes. Failures can make us feel unworthy of new opportunities, while successes can make us complacent, thinking we’ve already “arrived.” But God says, “I am doing a new thing.” Yesterday’s testimony is beautiful, but it cannot compare to what He is about to do.

Release the bitterness, regret, and nostalgia. Let go of relationships, habits, and mindsets that keep you stuck. Don’t allow old battles to define your new season. God is not consulting your past to decide your destiny—His plans are far greater.

Prayer Point: Lord, help me to release the weights of the past. Heal me from old wounds and give me courage to embrace the new.

Declaration: I declare that I am free from the grip of yesterday. I press forward into my new horizon with boldness.
