Luke 2:10 — “I bring you good tidings of great joy…”
The announcement of Jesus’ birth was not quiet or private. God chose to proclaim it as good news filled with great joy. This joy was not limited to a season or a moment. It marked the beginning of a new covenant where joy would no longer depend on human effort or perfect circumstances. Through Christ, joy became a permanent invitation for everyone who believes.
The shepherds who heard this message were not influential or celebrated people. They were ordinary workers living simple lives. Yet God entrusted them with the first announcement of joy. This reveals an important truth. Joy is not reserved for the elite or the spiritually accomplished. It reaches everyday people in the middle of normal life. God meets us where we are and fills that place with joy.
Under the new covenant, joy flows from relationship, not ritual. Jesus did not come to create fear or distance between God and humanity. He came to restore closeness, peace, and confidence. Romans 14:17 reminds us that the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Wherever God’s rule is welcomed, joy follows naturally.
Joy also strengthens us for real life. It does not deny pain or struggle, but it gives us power to rise above them. When joy fills the heart, perspective changes. Burdens feel lighter. Hope becomes stronger. Faith grows steadier. Nehemiah 8:10 teaches that the joy of the Lord is strength, and this strength becomes vital when life feels demanding.
Practically, joy grows when we intentionally remember the good news. Speaking God’s promises aloud, choosing gratitude, and staying connected to God through prayer and worship all create space for joy to flourish. When negative thoughts appear, joy redirects the heart back to truth. When discouragement tries to settle in, joy pushes it out.
This month, allow joy to shape your days. Let it guide your reactions, influence your decisions, and color your expectations. The new covenant invites you to live with confidence, peace, and gladness because Jesus has already come. Joy is no longer something you chase. It is something you receive and carry.
Prayer
Lord, let Your good news fill my life with joy. Let this joy strengthen my faith, steady my heart, and overflow into every area of my life.
